Summer Bridge

The NYC Men Teach Summer Bridge is designed to provide you with the opportunity to prepare for your career in teaching.  You will be able to design your own schedule, considering your needs and interests in order to create an experience that will help you make your hiring decision.  New York City schools and communities are diverse, and when deciding where and what you want to teach, you should take advantage of exploring your options.  In addition to attending the various events described below, your goal is to secure and attend interviews at schools throughout the month, and NYC Men Teach will support you in your interview efforts.

Be prepared to have fun through team building!

Come out on June 27 at 4:00!

Hiring Support Workshops: You will be able to sign up for small group sessions on resume and cover letters, demonstration lessons, and interviews.  You will bring what you have prepared and receive support from a trained NYCMT Ambassador and your peers.

 

Free Certifcation Exam Prep: We will offer guided sessions on material and best practices for passing thecertifcation exams. Our experienced ambassadors will be able to tailor the sessions based on the content of the individual exam.

Office Hours: We will schedule open time for you to be able have a quiet space and computer access to prepare materials for your interviews.

 

Training Sessions: Throughout the month, you will be able to attend a variety of training sessions that are focused on reflection and practical teaching strategies.

 

School Visits:  You will have the opportunity to visit schools throughout the city.  During the visit you will consider the school environment, various teaching approaches, and you may even be able to participate in lessons.

 

Panels: During these panels you will be able to hear personal stories and perspectives about teaching, specifically in the context of New York City.

 

Community Visits:  There is so much to see in NYC!  If there are neighborhoods that you have never explored or want to learn more about, these visits will be a great opportunity to experience a variety of communities, which may be helpful when making your hiring decisions.

 

Team Building:  As an Anchor, you are a part of a strong and supportive network.  During this event, you will have time to self reflect and build trust with your peers.

 

Kickoff Event:  This event is all about you!  You will first participate in a hiring fair and then attend a special program where leaders from various NYC departments will offer insight and inspiration.

 

Video Interviews: We want to capture your unique story and share it with other prospective Anchors.  If you choose, you may be videoed by a professional crew to use for future program advertising.
